Radeon 6470m Kext Helper
A small solution to the problem: 10.5.7 has updated the drivers for 3870: ATIRadeon2000.kext is version 1.5.44.13 (6686) ATIRadeon2000GA idem ATIRadeon2000GL idem ATIRadeon2000VA idem ATIRNDRV is version 1.5.29.0 (5775) Got the drivers from version 10.5.6 on my old system ATIRadeon2000.kext version 1.5.36.25 (6277) ATIRadeon2000GA idem ATIRadeon2000GL idem ATIRadeon2000VA idem ATIRNDRV the version 1.4.19.01 (4122) Using Kext Helper I put the old kext in place of new reboot and the card works quietly as before No abnormalities at this time how the system. That has very little to do with anything. Whether Apple offered a device as a build option or not, they'll still include updated drivers if any exist. The driver for the 3870 under 10.5.7 is a different version than 10.5.6.
Unfortunately, to answer the OP's question, it did not fix the problem for me. I'm currently trying to do various reinstalls, system cache cleaning and SMC resets in various combinations (trying to be scientific about it) to see if I can get lucky. So far, people with fan problems have very little in common other than their fan is loud. Some see fixes where others don't. After replacing 2 8800GT's in a year I decided to get an ATI instead.
The fan has been loud as **** ever since. Have to constantly monitor the temp while playing certain games with Bootcamp and turn up other fans with SMC Fan Control before booting to XP or this card would be replaced by now too.
When I boot in verbose -v. Sapphire ati radeon hd3870 I'm tring to instal leopard on my neW PC but when i install the kext for my video card i have only black screen at reboot. I use the kext from netkas.org (i instal with kext helper) and i've tried in 10.5.1 and 10.5.2.
Now I use Fan controller to drown out the everchanging sound of the card's fan with other fans. All 10.5.7 has done for me is made VMWare Fusion not work, which I'm told that even if it could open up a virtual machine, the 3d acceleration is broken from the OSX update. Every time Apple has a major OS upgrade scheduled to be released in the future their security updates manage to screw up everything.
Maybe, but it has happened with all upgrades since I bought my G5 back in 2003. It's a **** good thing I've been an Apple person for over 25 years so I'm used to fixing what they won't. A little background history. OWC / MacSales was selling a dual-slot Radeon limited production 3870 that would only work in 2008 model and not earlier, and is mentioned in Barefeats and here.
It seemed to be an Apple OEM, perhaps prototype engineering run? And sold out after less than about two months back in the Aug 2008 time frame.
Almost but not 100% identical to the retail ATI 3870s, different firmware and very slightly slower. Guess some felt the 2600XT was the one they wanted to go with and not 'confuse, cloud, compete' with two ATI products. In retrospect, I'd bet $20 that the 'Silver Arrow' 3870 would have worked just FINE in 2006/7 Mac Pros. To this day, Apple says the 4870 won't work in a 1st Gen, bet they work just fine there. I don't think anyone actually TRIED one of the Grey 3870s in an older Mac. Fotografia digital alta calidad mellado pdf download gratis.
I would love to get my hands on one of these, or at least have a look at the ROM on them. Have we even compared Rom Revision numbers to see if they were in fact different? They used a 2-slot cooler and likely used a 4 wire fan. These are superior to the simpler 2 wire fans used on the Blue Retail 3870s. There are some Red Dual Slot 3870s on Ebay from a couple vendors, not sure what the story is with those.but they seem to be using a 4 wire fan and are likely as quiet as a 4870, since they use a similar fan. Can you point me to a forum or blog where 'people tried' so that I can contact them for details? I searched and couldn't find anything.
