Personally I strongly prefer PS2 if you can afford that and the games, if not as the other commenter said the HD Collection is fairly cheap, just know that it's not as amazing of an experience. Also it only includes 2 and 3 so you'll miss out on 1 and 3 is far better if you've played 1. Not necessary I guess but definitely richer in context. Then you could hunt for a copy of the HD remaster of Silent Hill 2/3 (they come in a bundle) Many people are gonna say it's horrible and buggy blah.

But that's because they played the shit out of the PS2 games, and they find minor details such as the Fog and some sound effects to be out of sync with the original game. I recommend you to play that one why? It's cheaper than getting a PS2, and the SH 2/3/4 games for PS2 because it's very expensive. Now, after you finish 2 and 3 you can either go hunting for 4 for PC or an emulator of PS2.

That lead to many bugs, such as texture issues, fog issues, and many sound effects being messed up. Also, there was a a subjective style change in the complete redo of voice actors. There's quite a few examples in which the new recordings skim over the originals intent, leaving the lines lost or hard to decipher without a proper delivery.
